1997 Schipul Tech Software
The original software platform for Schipul Technologies. With NT 3.51 Workstation running WebSite Professional server you had a great web server. With NT 4.0 workstation Microsoft introduced the 10-connection-limitation on the workstation product to increase sales of server but only later came out with IIS (Internet information server) and PWS (personal web server) as a production and development platform respectively.
Netscape 3.0, then 4.0. We all thought VRML would take off. And Flash was the "it girl" in the following years. Microsoft charged forward with IIS with DTC (design time controls) which were tightly tied to IEs "Active Server Pages). IE 4 and Netscape 4 both used different versions of javascript making most applications retreat to round-trips to the server. PHP wasn't open source yet and CF (Cold Fusion) didn't support COM (needed to embed objects which ASP did support.)
It was a journey. ASP proved to be the most reliable long term, although I am very comfortable with our 2009 decision to move to Linux/Apache/MySql/Django/Python.
