Hosting your videos on a third party site like YouTube
can serve many purposes -
Not only can it help establish an online presence in the social media world, you can also use these services to embed videos in the content of your website.
More on how to embed a YouTube video in a Tendenci CMS page.
The advantage of using YouTube or Vimeo to display your video is that the third party site actually resizes and hosts the video – so there is minimal loading time on your site (read: it loads faster!).
So what is the difference between Vimeo and YouTube?
However, with Vimeo you have more control over the look and feel of any video you embed on your site – including what is shown on the video (title, creator, etc.), the size/dimensions of the player, the color of any text, etc. Also, the quality of the video is much higher on Vimeo (free accounts can upload one HD video per month) and you are not limited to 10 minutes as you are on YouTube).
To embed a Vimeo video, visit the video page and click the "Embed" link in the video.
A box will appear on top of the page with the code to embed and a preview of what the video will look like. To customize the video, click "Customize size, color, and other options."
As you make changes, the video will update as a live preview of your customization and the code at the top will change.
When you are happy with your selections, copy the code at the top. Paste this code into the HTML of your site to embed the video.
