Good Karma through adding Favorite Pages to your Facebook Fan Page!
Just like link love is good karma on
your website, adding Favorite Fan Pages on your Fan Page on
Facebook is also good karma!
How to do it
Make
sure you are logged into Facebook under an account that is marked as an
admin of the Fan Page!
The "Favorite Fan Pages" application is automatically installed on your Fan Page.
On
any applicable Fan Page, under the profile picture will be a link to
"Add to my Page's Favorites." Click this link and you will prompted for
WHICH Fan Page you would like to add it to. Choose the appropriate page
and click "Save."
What pages should I Favorite?
Anything that is applicable to your organization!
- Organizations like you in the same city
- For
instance, the Houston
Children's Museum (Schipul client) has favorited the
Houston Museum of Natural Science, the Houstonist,
and the Houston
Arts Alliance
- Organizations you have ties to in other cities
- For
instance, the Houston
Zoo (Schipul client) has favorited other zoo locations throughout the
country
- Things related to what you do
- Sokol
Volleyball (Schipul client) has favorited the US Olympic Volleyball team, and
other volleyball-related fan pages
Making sure the application is on your Wall Tab
Just
like a profile page, all of your applications live within your Fan
Page - but most of them live buried away in the "Boxes" tab.
To promote
your "Favorite Pages" list to the front of your Fan Page (your Wall
Tab), go to your boxes tab and click the pencil "Edit" icon. Choose
"Move to Wall Tab." You can then place your wall tab applications in whatever order you like on
the sidebar by simply dragging to reorder.
Now what?
Now
you are linking out to some interesting Fan Pages and building up your Facebook karma. If you would like to, you can write on the
wall of the particular fan page you just added and let them know that you are linking to them.
There
is no way to contact the admin directly, unless you know who is the
admin for the page. Whatever you post will be public to the whole world, so be very careful in crafting this wall post. Remember:
- It is NOT OK to spam the wall of a Fan Page to try to get people to Fan you
- It
IS OK to post how much you like the Fan Page and include
a link back to your page
- Be genuine - tell them why you added them!
- Example: When I am in Atlanta, I love visiting the Atlanta Zoo! We just added you as a Favorite Fan Page on the Houston Zoo page (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Houston-Zoo-Inc/15008187525)!
